Nara restaurant owner Casey Adams said that he chose the modern concept "to give Kansas City something they didn't have before, the food speaks for itself because there's nothing to hide behind, the display is pure."
Nara restaurant, a neojapanese and robata grill is a unique addition to the Kansas City Crossroads Art district.
The name nara was inspired by an ancient Japanese city famous for urban tranquility. The environment of the restaurant is aimed to balance those two elements.
According to Nara owner Casey Adams, the purpose of beginning the restaurant was to "bring something unique with great atmosphere to the city."
The location at 1617 Main Street was chosen because Adams wanted an old and historic building to renovate. His contribution to the city's beautification as opposed to building something new was an important factor to him. The location is in his own backyard as his home is also located in the neighborhood.
